Project Background
The heavy lift equipment, weighing over 350 tons, was successfully loaded at the designated terminal using trucks and a barge. Given the superlative dimensions and weight of this Out-of-Gauge (OOG) cargo, the handling process was both intricate and challenging, necessitating a high level of expertise from the staff involved.
Upon receiving the cargo details from the customer, our team conducted a thorough analysis and made professional forecasts, devising an optimal operation plan to ensure the seamless loading and delivery of the equipment.
Transportation: Truck+ barge+sea freight
POL: DONGGUAN, Guangdong
POD: TAIWAN
Commodity dimension: 5914*4975*5021mm
Gross weight: 350 tons
Time: August, 2023
Process and Challenges:
1. Lifting and Securing Heavy Equipment:
The heavy equipment was lifted and secured at the Foshan factory before being loaded onto Hydraulic Flatbed Trucks for transportation to the Foshan terminal.
Challenge: Utilizing two cranes to lift two pieces of cargo, each weighing 350 tons, at the Foshan terminal presented a significant challenge due to their extraordinary weight.
2. Transfer from Foshan Terminal to Dongguan Humen Terminal:
The barge carrying the cargo was moved from the Foshan terminal to the Dongguan Humen terminal.
Challenge: Transferring the 350-ton cargo from the barge to the vessel using a floating crane introduced complexities due to the substantial weight and the need for precise handling.
3. Sea freight from Dongguan Humen Terminal to Port of Kaohsiung
It involved the transfer of OOG commodities from a barge onto a vessel, which then transported the equipment to the Port of Kaohsiung.
Handling the logistics of Out-of-Gauge (OOG) projects can be particularly challenging for those lacking sufficient experience. However, at Focus Global Logistics (FGL), with our 25-year track record in international logistics—especially within sea freight—managing such specialized cargo is well within our expertise. Approximately one-quarter of our business and profits stem from handling these unique commodities, which include OOG, Break-Bulk (BBK), fragile large electronic devices, and Dangerous Goods (DG).
